<h1 class="topictitle1">Completing the installation of RHEL 3 on the IXS or IXA</h1>
<div><p>This topic discusses the steps necessary to complete the Red Hat
Enterprise Linux<sup>®</sup> installation</p>
<div class="section"><p>To complete the installation of a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 ES
or AS (RHEL 3) server:</p>
</div>
<ol><li class="stepexpand"><span>The server boots and dialog will display, <span class="uicontrol">Do you have
a driver disk?</span> Select <span class="uicontrol">Yes</span> and press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>If the installation detects multiple devices that could serve as
sources for a driver disk, select <span class="uicontrol">fd0</span> and press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>You will be prompted to insert the driver diskette into the drive.
After you insert the driver diskette into the drive, press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.
There will be a message indicating that it is reading the driver diskette
and then loading the ibmixsvs driver.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>You will be prompted to load more driver disks. There is no need
to do this. Select <span class="uicontrol">No</span> and press <span class="uicontrol">Enter</span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>The Red Hat graphical interface will start. You can continue through
the installation making selections as you prefer however specific selections
are required on the <span class="uicontrol">Disk Partitioning Setup</span> and <span class="uicontrol">Boot
Loader Configuration</span> screens.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>When the installation displays the <span class="uicontrol">Disk Partitioning
Setup</span> screen, you can choose to automatically partition the disk
or manually partition the disk using Disk Druid. Unless you are an experienced
user, we recommend that you choose to automatically partition the disk.</span> <dl><dt class="dlterm"><strong>Important:</strong> The install drive (/dev/sdb) <strong><em>FAT partition must
not be modified</em></strong>. Otherwise the server will not boot.</dt>

<dt class="dlterm">To use automatic partitioning:</dt>
<dd>a. Select <span class="uicontrol">Automatically partition</span> and click <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>. </dd>
<dd class="ddexpand">b. Two disks are displayed, /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. Remove the check before
/dev/sdb so that /dev/sda is the only drive checked and select <span class="uicontrol">Remove
all partitions on this system</span>. Click on <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>,
then click <span class="uicontrol">Yes</span> on the warning message.</dd>
<dd class="ddexpand">c. Review the partition setup on the <span class="uicontrol">Disk Setup</span> display.
Click <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>.</dd>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>When the installation displays the <span class="uicontrol">Boot Loader Configuration</span> screen,
you must make sure that the <span class="uicontrol">GRUB</span> boot loader will be
installed on <span class="uicontrol">/dev/sda</span>. Click <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Continue on with installation making selections as you prefer.
When you are done making selections, the installation will prompt you for
CD-ROMs. When this phase is finished, the server will reboot. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>After the server reboots, the Setup Agent will guide you through
some basic configuration. You can continue through the setup as you prefer;
however, specific selections are required on the <span class="uicontrol">Red Hat Login</span> and <span class="uicontrol">Why
Register</span> screens. The reason is that Red Hat updates can not be
applied to your server until the post-installation instructions have been
completed which are in the section titled <em>Completing the post-installation
tasks</em>. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the <span class="uicontrol">Red Hat Login</span> screen, select <span class="uicontrol">Tell
me why I need to register and provide a Red Hat login</span> and click <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the <span class="uicontrol">Why Register</span> screen, select <span class="uicontrol">I
can not complete registration at this time. Remind me later</span> and
click <span class="uicontrol">Next</span>.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>When the setup phases are complete, you will be prompted to sign
on to the sever. Please follow the instructions described in the section titled <span class="uicontrol">Completing
the post-installation tasks</span> of the Redbook. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Once the post-installation instructions are complete, you can apply
Red Hat updates to your server.</span> <p></p>
<p><strong>Important:</strong> After
applying Red Hat updates, you <em>must</em> run <strong>ixsupdt</strong> before
you reboot your server. Details for ixsupdt are listed in the section titled <em>Maintaining
the Linux integration code</em>.</p>
