Plan to distribute software

Start of changeYou can use either iSeries™ Navigator or central site distribution to distribute software. The quantity and type of software that you want to distribute determines which distribution tool you should use.End of change

When to use iSeries Navigator

Start of changeiSeries Navigator allows you to logically group a number of programs and files on a source i5/OS server and distribute those objects to one or more target i5/OS™ servers. It is the quickest and most efficient way to distribute one or more licensed programs, your own software products, fixes, or user libraries. End of change

When to use central site distribution

Start of changeCentral site distribution is most often used to distribute the software involved in a full system upgrade or the software of a logical partition. This usually includes a collection of software such as the i5/OS operating system, program temporary fixes (PTFs), IBM® licensed programs, non-IBM licensed programs, and user libraries. You can also use central site distribution to distribute the software of a logical partition to several servers that might or might not be partitioned.End of change
