Troubleshoot token ring

The server has tools to help you locate and resolve errors.

This information shows the tools that you can use and other troubleshooting help:

• Find your troubleshooting tools in Troubleshoot LANs.
• If your system or the remote system cannot successfully connect, read Why some LAN connections fail for possible causes and solutions.
• If the PCs cannot connect to your system, see Why PCs do not connect to your system.
• If you are tracing LAN communications, you might need to know the format of the token-ring frame to correctly understand the information it contains. If so, see Understand the token-ring address format.

Connection problems when using the 2744 card:

If you have problems making a connection with the 2744 card, the automatic ring-speed sensing setting might be incorrectly configured. If this is the case, you should verify that only the line description or the switch to which your system connects is enabled for automatic sensing. That is, only one device must be enabled for automatic sensing. The other device should manually indicate the speed it can use.

  If the PCs cannot connect to your server, view the error log for messages about line descriptions and about system reference code AF06.

  While troubleshooting, you might need to view the information of the destination-address and source-address frames.
