Configure SNA over token ring

To Configure Systems Network Architecture (SNA) over token ring, you need to create the token-ring line description, the controller description, and sometimes the device description.

To configure SNA over token ring, do these steps:

  1. Create the token-ring line description. Ensure the correct configuration of these fields when you create the line description:
    • If the system uses this line description to communicate with an SNA host through a parallel connection, define a value other than *LIND in the Exchange identifiers field.
    • Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) and Advanced Program-to-Program Communication (APPC) connections use fields Link speed through Autodelete controller. You can use the defaults or press F1 (Help) for more information about each field.
    • If you want the system to create the APPC controller description when a call comes in, specify *YES in the Autocreate controller field. If you specified *YES, skip to step 3.
  2. Create the controller description.
  3. If your controller description does one of these, you must create a device description:
    • Specifies *NONE in the Autocreate device field.
    • Specifies *NO in the APPN-capable field (this applies only to APPC controller descriptions)
  4. Enable the descriptions to accept connections.
