Create the SNA device description

The device description describes the communications device used by the remote device.

There are no LAN-specific parameters in the device description.

To create the Systems Network Architecture (SNA) device description, follow these steps:

  1. To create the device description, find the create command to use in Create APPC device descriptions (this information also has other commands for Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) devices, Single Network Point (SNPT) devices, and so forth). Then return here to configure the description.
  2. Type the name of the command to use and press F4 (Prompt).
  3. Type the name of device description into the Device description field.
  4. Complete these fields as described:
    • Remote location is the name from the Local location field of the device description that is on the remote device. If the Local location field contains *NETATR, use the Display Network Attributes (DSPNETA) command at the remote device. Use this command to view the name that is specified by the Default local location field.
    • Remote network identifier is the network identifier of the remote IBM® eServer iSeries™ system. To find this value, use the Display Network Attributes (DSPNETA) command at the remote system to locate the Local network ID field. Advanced Program-Program Communication (APPC) device descriptions use the Remote network identifier field.
  5. For detailed information about all the parameters and their dependencies, see the Communications Configuration manual on the V5R1 Supplemental Manuals Web siteLink to PDF.
  6. Press Enter twice to create the description.
