Starting from a power-off condition

If your system unit power is off, perform the following steps to power on the system and begin a normal installation.

When you complete this topic, you will be instructed to return to the appropriate step of your original installation procedures.

Use the control panel to set the mode and IPL type:
- If you were directed here from Upgrading or replacing software using automatic installation, set the IPL type to D and the mode to Normal. On some models, this will appear as DN.
- If you were directed here from Upgrading or replacing software using manual installation, set the IPL type to D and the mode to Manual. On some models, this will appear as DM
Press Enter on the control panel.
On your console, ensure that you have a connection to the server.
If your installation device has separate on and off switches, verify that the switch is in the On position.
Load the media and make the device ready. If you cannot load the media now, you will be able to in step 7.
Turn the power on for the server by pushing the power switch once.
If you could not load your media in the previous steps, load the first volume into the tape or optical device for the alternate IPL now.
You are ready to return to your original installation procedures.
- If you are performing automatic installation, continue with step 4 in the automatic installation procedures.
- If you are performing a manual installation, continue with step 5 in the manual installation procedures (replacing Licensed Internal Code).
