a947cf84c5 system/memory: add RamDiscardManager reference counting and cleanup
Listeners now hold a reference to the RamDiscardManager, ensuring it
stays alive while listeners are registered. The RDM is eagerly freed
when the last source and listener are removed, and also unreffed during
MemoryRegion finalization as a safety net.

This completes the TODO left in the previous commit and prevents both
use-after-free and memory leaks of the RamDiscardManager.

Refactor RamDiscardManager to aggregate multiple RamDiscardSource
instances. This enables scenarios where multiple components (e.g.,
virtio-mem and RamBlockAttributes) can coordinate memory discard
state for the same memory region.

The aggregation uses:
- Populated: ALL sources populated
- Discarded: ANY source discarded

When a source is added with existing listeners, they are notified
about regions that become discarded. When a source is removed,
listeners are notified about regions that become populated.

d444e348b1 system/memory: move RamDiscardManager to separate compilation unit
Extract RamDiscardManager and RamDiscardSource from system/memory.c into
dedicated a unit.

This reduces coupling and allows code that only needs the
RamDiscardManager interface to avoid pulling in all of memory.h
dependencies.

rust-sys bindings are no longer generated for RamDiscardSourceClass at
this point, thus we drop the unneeded InterfaceClass use.

43d1320c6c system/memory: split RamDiscardManager into source and manager
Refactor the RamDiscardManager interface into two distinct components:
- RamDiscardSource: An interface that state providers (virtio-mem,
  RamBlockAttributes) implement to provide discard state information
  (granularity, populated/discarded ranges, replay callbacks).
- RamDiscardManager: A concrete QOM object that wraps a source, owns
  the listener list, and handles listener registration/unregistration
  and notifications.

This separation moves the listener management logic from individual
source implementations into the central RamDiscardManager, reducing
code duplication between virtio-mem and RamBlockAttributes.

The change prepares for future work where a RamDiscardManager could
aggregate multiple sources.

Note, the original virtio-mem code had conditions before discard:
  if (vmem->size) {
      rdl->notify_discard(rdl, rdl->section);
  }
however, the new code calls discard unconditionally. This is considered
safe, since the populate/discard of sections are already asymmetrical
(unplug & unregister all listener section unconditionally).

11b9798c7b memory: Allow RAM device regions to skip IOMMU mapping
Some RAM device regions created with memory_region_init_ram_device_ptr()
are not intended to be P2P DMA targets.

The VFIO listener currently treats all RAM device regions as DMA
capable and attempts to map them into the IOMMU. For regions without
dma-buf backing this fails and prints warnings such as:

  IOMMU_IOAS_MAP failed: Bad address, PCI BAR?

Introduce a MemoryRegion flag (ram_device_skip_iommu_map) to mark RAM
device regions that should not be IOMMU mapped, paired with
memory_region_skip_iommu_map() / memory_region_set_skip_iommu_map()
accessors. When the flag is set, the VFIO listener skips DMA mapping
for that region.

b52e1896e7 vhost-user: Add VirtIO Shared Memory map request
Add SHMEM_MAP/UNMAP requests to vhost-user for dynamic management of
VIRTIO Shared Memory mappings.

This implementation introduces VirtioSharedMemoryMapping as a unified
QOM object that manages both the mapping metadata and MemoryRegion
lifecycle. This object provides reference-counted lifecycle management
with automatic cleanup of file descriptors and memory regions
through QOM finalization.

This request allows backends to dynamically map file descriptors into a
VIRTIO Shared Memory Region identified by their shmid. Maps are created
using memory_region_init_ram_from_fd() with configurable read/write
permissions, and the resulting MemoryRegions are added as subregions to
the shmem container region. The mapped memory is then advertised to the
guest VIRTIO drivers as a base address plus offset for reading and
writting according to the requested mmap flags.

The backend can unmap memory ranges within a given VIRTIO Shared Memory
Region to free resources. Upon receiving this message, the frontend
removes the MemoryRegion as a subregion and automatically unreferences
the VirtioSharedMemoryMapping object, triggering cleanup if no other
references exist.

Error handling has been improved to ensure consistent behavior across
handlers that manage their own vhost_user_send_resp() calls. Since
these handlers clear the VHOST_USER_NEED_REPLY_MASK flag, explicit
error checking ensures proper connection closure on failures,
maintaining the expected error flow.

Note the memory region commit for these operations needs to be delayed
until after we reply to the backend to avoid deadlocks. Otherwise,
the MemoryListener would send a VHOST_USER_SET_MEM_TABLE message
before the reply.

9f733abb1a system/memory: assert on invalid MemoryRegionOps .unaligned combo
When it comes to this pattern: .valid.unaligned = false and
impl.unaligned = true, is effectlvely contradictory. The .valid
structure indicates that unaligned access should be rejected at
the access validation phase, yet .impl suggests the underlying
device implementation can handle unaligned operations. As a result,
the upper-layer code will never even reach the .impl logic.

Add an assertion that the MemoryRegionOps doesn't specify
this invalid combination.

a4e85f89e8 memory: Optimize flatview_simplify() to eliminate redundant memmove calls
The original flatview_simplify() implementation uses memmove() to shift
array elements after each merge operation, resulting in O(n²) time
complexity in the worst case. This is inefficient for VMs with large
memory topologies containing hundreds of MemoryRegions.

Replace the memmove-based approach with a two-pointer in-place compression
algorithm that achieves O(n) time complexity. The new algorithm uses a
write pointer i and a read pointer j, where i ≤ j is always maintained.
This invariant ensures we never overwrite unprocessed data, making memmove
unnecessary.

792cb90e84 memory: Set mr->ram before RAM Block allocation
Commit 2fb627ef2f ("memory: Factor out common ram region initialization")
introduced a helper function memory_region_set_ram_block(), which causes
mr->ram to be set to true after the RAM Block allocation by
qemu_ram_alloc_*().

It leads to the assertion

  g_assert(memory_region_is_ram(mr));

in memory_region_set_ram_discard_manager() being triggered when creating
RAM Block with the RAM_GUEST_MEMFD flag.

Fix this by restoring the original behavior of setting mr->ram before
RAM Block allocation.

e8a6d158db migration: merge fragmented clear_dirty ioctls
In our long-term experience in Bytedance, we've found that under
the same load, live migration of larger VMs with more devices is
often more difficult to converge (requiring a larger downtime limit).

Through some testing and calculations, we conclude that bitmap sync time
affects the calculation of live migration bandwidth.

When the addresses processed are not aligned, a large number of
clear_dirty ioctl occur (e.g. a 4MB misaligned memory can generate
2048 clear_dirty ioctls from two different memory_listener),
which increases the time required for bitmap_sync and makes it
more difficult for dirty pages to converge.

For a 64C256G vm with 8 vhost-user-net(32 queue per nic) and
16 vhost-user-blk(4 queue per blk), the sync time is as high as *73ms*
(tested with 10GBps dirty rate, the sync time increases as the dirty
page rate increases), Here are each part of the sync time:

- sync from kvm to ram_list: 2.5ms
- vhost_log_sync:3ms
- sync aligned memory from ram_list to RAMBlock: 5ms
- sync misaligned memory from ram_list to RAMBlock: 61ms

Attempt to merge those fragmented clear_dirty ioctls, then syncing
misaligned memory from ram_list to RAMBlock takes only about 1ms,
and the total sync time is only *12ms*.

bc54fb0168 memory: Adjust event ranges to fit within notifier boundaries
Invalidating the entire address space (i.e. range of [0, ~0ULL]) is a
valid and required operation by vIOMMU implementations. However, such
invalidations currently trigger an assertion unless they originate from
device IOTLB invalidations.

Although in recent Linux guests this case is not exercised by the VTD
implementation due to various optimizations, the assertion will be hit
by upcoming AMD vIOMMU changes to support DMA address translation. More
specifically, when running a Linux guest with VFIO passthrough device,
and a kernel that does not contain commmit 3f2571fed2fa ("iommu/amd:
Remove redundant domain flush from attach_device()").

Remove the assertion altogether and adjust the range to ensure it does
not cross notifier boundaries.

041600e23f memory: New AS helper to serialize destroy+free
If an AddressSpace has been created in its own allocated
memory, cleaning it up requires first destroying the AS
and then freeing the memory. Doing this doesn't work:

    address_space_destroy(as);
    g_free_rcu(as, rcu);

because both address_space_destroy() and g_free_rcu()
try to use the same 'rcu' node in the AddressSpace struct
and the address_space_destroy hook gets overwritten.

Provide a new address_space_destroy_free() function which
will destroy the AS and then free the memory it uses, all
in one RCU callback.

ac7a892fd3 memory: Fix leaks due to owner-shared MRs circular references
Currently, QEMU refcounts the MR by always taking it from the owner.

It's common that one object will have multiple MR objects embeded in the
object itself.  All the MRs in this case share the same lifespan of the
owner object.

It's also common that in the instance_init() of an object, MR A can be a
container of MR B, C, D, by using memory_region_add_subregion*() set of
memory region APIs.

Now we have a circular reference issue, as when adding subregions for MR A,
we essentially incremented the owner's refcount within the instance_init(),
meaning the object will be self-boosted and its refcount can never go down
to zero if the MRs won't get detached properly before object's finalize().

Delete subregions within object's finalize() won't work either, because
finalize() will be invoked only if the refcount goes to zero first.  What
is worse, object_finalize() will do object_property_del_all() first before
object_deinit().  Since embeded MRs will be properties of the owner object,
it means they'll be freed _before_ the owner's finalize().

To fix that, teach memory API to stop refcount on MRs that share the same
owner.  Because if they share the lifecycle of the owner, then they share
the same lifecycle between themselves, hence the refcount doesn't help but
only introduce troubles.

Meanwhile, allow auto-detachments of MRs during finalize() of MRs even
against its container, as long as they belong to the same owner.

The latter is needed because now it's possible to have MRs' finalize()
happen in any order when they share the same lifespan with a same owner.
In this case, we should allow finalize() to happen in any order of either
the parent or child MR.  Loose the mr->container check in MR's finalize()
to allow auto-detach.  Double check it shares the same owner.

Proper document this behavior in code.

ff1211154c memory: Change memory_region_set_ram_discard_manager() to return the result
Modify memory_region_set_ram_discard_manager() to return -EBUSY if a
RamDiscardManager is already set in the MemoryRegion. The caller must
handle this failure, such as having virtio-mem undo its actions and fail
the realize() process. Opportunistically move the call earlier to avoid
complex error handling.

This change is beneficial when introducing a new RamDiscardManager
instance besides virtio-mem. After
ram_block_coordinated_discard_require(true) unlocks all
RamDiscardManager instances, only one instance is allowed to be set for
one MemoryRegion at present.

e3353d63e1 vfio: return mr from vfio_get_xlat_addr
Modify memory_get_xlat_addr and vfio_get_xlat_addr to return the memory
region that the translated address is found in.  This will be needed by
CPR in a subsequent patch to map blocks using IOMMU_IOAS_MAP_FILE.

Also return the xlat offset, so we can simplify the interface by removing

8e72b0eb18 util: exclude mmap-alloc.c from compilation target on Emscripten
Emscripten does not support partial unmapping of mmapped memory
regions[1]. This limitation prevents correct implementation of qemu_ram_mmap
and qemu_ram_munmap, which rely on partial unmap behavior.

As a workaround, this commit excludes mmap-alloc.c from the Emscripten
build. Instead, for Emscripten build, this modifies qemu_anon_ram_alloc to
use qemu_memalign in place of qemu_ram_mmap, and disable memory backends
that rely on mmap, such as memory-backend-file and memory-backend-shm.

b939b8e42a exec: Rename target_words_bigendian() -> target_big_endian()
In commit 98ed8ecfc9 ("exec: introduce target_words_bigendian()
helper") target_words_bigendian() was matching the definition it
was depending on (TARGET_WORDS_BIGENDIAN). Later in commit
ee3eb3a7ce ("Replace TARGET_WORDS_BIGENDIAN") the definition was
renamed as TARGET_BIG_ENDIAN but we didn't update the helper.
Do it now mechanically using:

  $ sed -i -e s/target_words_bigendian/target_big_endian/g \
        $(git grep -wl target_words_bigendian)

3ec0214816 physmem: qemu_ram_alloc_from_fd extensions
Extend qemu_ram_alloc_from_fd to support resizable ram, and define
qemu_ram_resize_cb to clean up the API.

Add a grow parameter to extend the file if necessary.  However, if
grow is false, a zero-sized file is always extended.
