<div><p>A PPP environment requires that you have two or more computers
|
|
that support PPP. One of these computers, the iSeries™ server, can either be the originator
|
|
or receiver. </p>
|
|
<div class="section"><p>The iSeries server
|
|
must meet the following prerequisites so remote systems can access it.</p>
|
|
<ul><li>iSeries Navigator
|
|
with TCP/IP support.</li>
|
|
<li>One of the two connection profiles: <ul><li>An Originator Connection Profile to handle outbound PPP connections</li>
|
|
<li>A Receiver Connection Profile to handle inbound PPP connections</li>
|
|
</ul>
|
|
</li>
|
|
<li>A PC workstation console installed with iSeries Access for Windows<sup>®</sup> 95
|
|
or later with iSeries Navigator.</li>
|
|
<li>An installed adapter <div class="p">You can choose one from the following adapters: <ul><li>2699*: Two-line WAN input/output adapter (IOA)</li>
|
|
<li>2720*: PCI WAN/Twinaxial IOA</li>
|
|
<li>2721*: PCI Two-line WAN IOA</li>
|
|
<li>2745*: PCI Two-line WAN IOA (replaces IOA 2721)</li>
|
|
<li>2742*: Two-line IOA (replaces IOA 2745)</li>
|
|
<li>2771: Two-port WAN IOA, with a V.90 integrated modem on port 1 and a standard
|
|
communications interface on port 2. To use port 2 of the 2771 adapter, an
|
|
external modem or ISDN terminal adapter with the appropriate cable is required.</li>
|
|
<li>2772: Two-port V.90 integrated modem WAN IOA</li>
|
|

|
adapter for PPPoE connections.<img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /></li>

<li>2793*: Two-port WAN IOA, with a V.92 integrated modem on port 1 and a
|
|
standard communications interface on port 2. To use port 2 of the 2793 adapter,
|
|
an external modem or ISDN terminal adapter with appropriate cable is required.
|
|
This replaces IOA model 2771. </li>
|
|
<li>2805 Four-port WAN IOA, with an integrated V.92 integrated analog modem.
|
|
This replaces models 2761 and 2772.</li>
|
|
</ul>

|

* These adapters require an external V.90 modem (or above), or ISDN
|
|
terminal adapter, and an RS-232 (EIA 232) or compatible cable.</li>

<li>One of the following, depending on your connection type and line: <ul><li>external or internal modem, or channel service unit (CSU)/data service
|
|
unit (DSU)</li>
|
|
<li>integrated services digital network (ISDN) terminal adapter</li>
|
|
</ul>

|

<li>You need to make arrangements for a dial-up account with an Internet Service
|
|
Provider (ISP) if you plan to connect to the Internet. Your ISP should give
|
|
you the necessary telephone numbers and information for the Internet connection.</li>
