<div><p>You can configure a monitor in <span class="keyword">iSeries™ Navigator</span>.
Use this topic to learn how to set up a monitor and how to configure it to
take the best advantage of the available options.</p>
<div class="section">System monitors are highly interactive tools that you can use to
gather and display real-time performance data from your endpoint systems.
Creating a new monitor is a quick and easy process that begins at the <span class="uicontrol">New
Monitor</span> window:</div>
<ol><li><span>In <span class="keyword">iSeries Navigator</span>, expand
Management Central, select <span class="uicontrol">Monitors</span>, right-click <span class="uicontrol">System</span>,
and then select <span class="uicontrol">New Monitor</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Specify a monitor name. From the <span class="uicontrol">New Monitor-General</span> page
specify a name for your monitor. Provide a brief description so you can find
the monitor in a list of monitors.</span></li>
<li><span>Select metrics. Use the <span class="uicontrol">New Monitor-Metrics</span> page
to select your metrics. You can monitor any number of metrics on any number
of endpoint systems or system groups.</span></li>
<li><span>View and change your metric information. Use the <span class="uicontrol">New
Monitor-Metrics</span> page to edit the properties for each metric. You
can edit the collection interval, maximum graphing value, and display time
for each metric you select.</span></li>
<li><span>Set threshold commands. Use the <span class="uicontrol">Thresholds</span> tab
on the <span class="uicontrol">Metrics</span> page to enable thresholds and specify
commands to run on the endpoint system whenever thresholds are triggered or
reset.</span></li>
<li><span>Set threshold actions. Use the <span class="uicontrol">New Monitor-Actions</span> page
to specify the actions you want to occur when a metric threshold is triggered
or reset.</span></li>
<li><span>Select your systems and groups. Use the <span class="uicontrol">New Monitor-Systems
and Groups</span> page to select the endpoint systems or system groups
where you want to start a monitor.</span></li>

<div class="section"><p>After you have created your monitor, right-click the monitor name
and select <span class="uicontrol">Start</span> to run the monitor and begin working
with monitor graphs.</p>
