<div><p>Public authority is defined for every object on the system to describe
what type of access a user has to the object when that user has no specific
access to it. This topic shows how to define public authority for a file using
the iSeries™ Navigator.</p>
<div class="section"> <p>To define public authority, follow these steps:</p>

<ol><li><span>From iSeries Navigator,
expand the system you want to use.</span></li>
<li><span>Navigate until the object for which you want to edit permissions
is visible.</span></li>
<li><span>Right-click the object for which you want to add permissions and
click <span class="uicontrol">Permissions</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>On the Permissions window, select <span class="uicontrol">Public</span> from
the group list.</span></li>
<li><span>Click the <span class="uicontrol">Details</span> button to implement detailed
permissions. Apply the permissions that you want for public authority by checking
the appropriate box.</span></li>
<li><span>Click <span class="uicontrol">OK</span>.</span></li>
