<p>Before you start to configure a partition on an iSeries server, with V5R1 or later OS/400<sup>®</sup> not

managed by an HMC, to run Linux, see <a href="rzalmplanningkickoff.htm">Plan to run Linux in a logical partition</a> for assistance. You should also be familiar with basic
|
|
logical partitions concepts before you start to create a logical
|
|
partition. </p>
|

<p>For information on partitioning for Linux on eServer™ 5800 servers, refer to <a href="../icbase/iphbi/iphbikickoff.htm" target="_blank">Partitioning
|
|
for Linux</a>. It is recommended that you perform a full server back up
|
|
before changing your server configuration. See <a href="rzalmbackupoptions.htm">Backup options for virtual and directly attached disk</a> for instructions on performing a full server back up.</p>
