The trace route function allows you to trace
the route of IP packets to a user-specified destination system so you can
locate the connectivity problem.

The route can involve many different systems
along the way. Each system along the route is referred to as a hop. You can
trace all hops along the route or specify the starting and ending hops to
be traced.

Trace route displays a list of routers between your local
network and the destination node. Examine the list of routers that the trace
encounters to locate the problem on the network. For example, if the trace
stops at a particular router, the problem might lie with that router or somewhere
on the network after that point.

connectivity.
