<h1 class="topictitle1">Meet Operations Console software requirements</h1>
|
|
<div><p>You need to meet the following software requirements for working
|
|
with Operations Console.</p>
|
|
<div class="section"><p>Before you continue, make sure that you have satisfied the Operations
|
|
Console hardware requirements according to your intended configuration. Operations
|
|
Console is supported on Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Professional.</p>
|
|

|
|
<div class="section"><p>The iSeries™ Access
|
|
for Windows versions, for both the local console and the remote console, must
|
|
be at the same level for proper operation of Operations Console.</p>
|
|
</div>
|
|
<div class="section"><p>PC5250 or IBM<sup>®</sup> Personal Communications V5.8 (or V5.7 with CSD 1)
|
|
needs to be installed for the console only. It is not required
|
|
for remote control panel only configurations.</p>
|
|
</div>

|
<div class="section"><div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> If you run any software that enables SOCKS on your PC (the
|
|
PC accesses the Internet through a firewall, such as Microsoft<sup>®</sup> Proxy
|
|
Client, Hummingbird<sup>®</sup> SOCKS
|
|
Client, NEC SOCKS 5, or others), you cannot route the subnet for 192.168.0.0
|
|
to the firewall. Operations Console uses addresses in the range of 192.168.0.0
|
|
to 192.168.0.255. Incorrect routing causes Operations Console to fail. Check
|
|
your SOCKS configuration and make sure that the entry is: <pre>Direct 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0</pre>
|
|

<div class="section"><h4 class="sectiontitle">Data encryption for a local console on a network:</h4><p>To
|
|
use a local console on a network, you are strongly encouraged to install cryptographic
|
|
products. This support may be a separate product or it may be available from
|
|
another source. Use the strongest encryption available for the best security.</p>
|
