<div><p>Before setting up e-mail, you should have a basic plan for how
|
|
you will be using e-mail on your iSeries™ server.</p>
|
|
<p>Before you start setting up e-mail, answer the following questions:</p>
|
|
<ol><li>What will my e-mail addresses look like?</li>
|
|
<li>What is the IP address of my Domain Name Server (DNS)?</li>
|
|
<li>Do I have a firewall? If the answer is yes, what is its IP address?</li>
|
|
<li>Do I have a mail proxy, mail router, or mail relay? If the answer is yes,
|
|
what is its IP address?</li>
|
|
<li>Will I be using a Domino<sup>®</sup> database?</li>
|
|
<li>Will I be using iSeries POP to receive mail?</li>
|
|
</ol>
|
|
<p>You might want to refer to the e-mail example for basic information about
|
|
how e-mail works.</p>
|
|
<p>If you will be using Domino and iSeries SMTP, refer to Hosting a Domino and
|
|
SMTP server on the same iSeries server. For additional information about Domino,
|
|
refer to the Domino topic
|
|
or the Lotus<sup>®</sup> Domino on iSeries home
|
|
page.</p>
|
|
<p>When you are ready to set up e-mail, use the steps provided in Configure
|
|
e-mail.</p>
|
|
<p>Control e-mail access provides tips for protecting your e-mail servers
|
|
from flooding and spamming.</p>
|
|
<p>If you do not plan to use the SMTP or POP servers, disable them to ensure
|
|
that they will not be used without your knowledge.</p>
|

You should control who accesses your server through e-mail to protect your data from malicious attacks.</li>

Depending on how you use your system, you might want to prevent users from accessing e-mail through SMTP and POP servers. You can prevent e-mail access entirely or allow access occasionally.</li>
