<h1 class="topictitle1">Activate PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span></h1>
<div><p>PM <span class="keyword">iSeries™</span> ships
with <span class="keyword">i5/OS™</span>, but you must
activate it to use its collecting capabilities.</p>
<div class="section"><p>You must start PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> to
take advantage of its data collecting capabilities. You can start PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> by using any one of the following
methods:</p>
<p><strong>Use <span class="keyword">iSeries Navigator</span></strong></p>
<p>Use <span class="keyword">iSeries Navigator</span> to activate PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> over
multiple systems. When you activate PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span>,
you can use the Graph History function to see data that was collected days
ago, weeks ago, or months ago. You go beyond the real-time monitor capabilities.
You have access to summary data or detailed data. Without PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> enabled,
the graph data field supports 1 to 7 days. With PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> enabled,
you choose the length of time to retain the data.</p>
<p>To start PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> from <span class="keyword">iSeries Navigator</span>,
do the following steps:</p>

<ol><li><span>In <span class="keyword">iSeries Navigator</span>, expand
the system where you want to start PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Expand <span class="uicontrol">Configuration and Service</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Right-click <span class="uicontrol">Collection Services</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Select <span class="uicontrol">PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span></span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Select <span class="uicontrol">Start</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Select the systems on which you want to start PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Click <span class="uicontrol">OK</span>.</span></li>
</ol>
<div class="section"><p><strong>Reply to message CPAB02A in the QSYSOPR message queue</strong></p>
<p>When
the QSYSWRK subsystem starts, this message asks if you want to activate PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span>.</p>
<ol><li>From the character-based interface, reply with a G to the message in QSYSOPR
"Do you want to activate PM eServer™ <span class="keyword">iSeries</span>?
(I G C)." QSYSOPR message queue receives the message that PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> is activated.</li>
<li>Update your contact information. Issue the <span class="uicontrol">GO PM400</span> command
and specify option 1.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Issue the Configure PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> (CFGPM400)
command</strong></p>
<p>From the character-based interface, you can issue the Configure
PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> (CFGPM400) command.</p>
<p>You
can proceed to the next step in the setup process, which is to determine which
transmission method to use to send data to IBM<sup>®</sup>.</p>
