<h1 class="topictitle1">Vary a line off and on with PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span></h1>
<div><p>Sometimes the line that PM <span class="keyword">iSeries™</span> uses
is in the connect pending state. This state does not allow PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> to
access the line to transmit data.</p>
<div class="section"><p>The PM eServer™ <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> Line
Control display allows PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> to
vary off the line, transmit the data, and then put the line back in the connect
pending state. When you use this display, you can change the PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> transmission
task (Q1PCM1) to check for line status and vary off the appropriate line.
Once the transmission is complete, the same line is placed in a connect pending
state.</p>
<div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> This task is necessary only if PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> gathers
data and transmits data over SNA.</div>
<p>To vary off and on a line, do the
following steps:</p>

<ol><li class="stepexpand"><span>Start the PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> line
monitoring function by typing <span class="uicontrol">PMLINMON</span> from the command
line. You should see the PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> Line
Control display.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Read the warning that is shown on the first display and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Define the line, controller, and device combinations that PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> needs to vary off.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Use the prompt <span class="uicontrol">Do you want PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> automatic
line control active?</span> as a master control switch for the function.
If you specify <span class="uicontrol">YES</span>, the PM <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> function
is active. If you specify <span class="uicontrol">NO</span>, the function is disabled.</span> <p>If you specify <span class="uicontrol">NO</span>, you do not need to define
the line control list again when you specify <span class="uicontrol">YES</span>. You
can vary off and on a line by specifying the line only. You can vary off and
on a line, controller, and device by specifying all three descriptions.</p>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Verify the line, controller, and device that you defined. Press
Enter to see a summary of your choices.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Press Enter to confirm your choices or press F12 to return to the
previous display to change your entries.</span></li>
</ol>

PM eServer <span class="keyword">iSeries</span> (CFGPM400) command.</p>
