<h1 class="topictitle1">Reviewing software PTF (fix) requirements</h1>
<div><p>Before you begin the installation process, make sure that your
server is ready by reviewing your requirements for program temporary fixes
(PTFs).</p>
<p><span>For this release, for example, a PTF</span> for
accepting online software agreements for Licensed Internal Code and the <span class="keyword">i5/OS™</span> operating system is required
to be temporarily applied before you upgrade. If you are upgrading to V5R4,
a PTF to allocate additional space for the Licensed Internal Code before you
upgrade might also be required.</p>

Situations can arise that require specific program temporary fixes (PTFs) before you can install a new release.</li>

Today, as part of the automatic installation process, all nonconfigured
disk units are added to the system auxiliary storage pool (ASP). If you are
using automatic installation to upgrade <span>from V5R2</span> and
do not want nonconfigured disk units added, PTFs are available.</li>

Temporarily applied PTFs require a considerable amount of disk storage space. Do this only for products and temporarily applied PTFs that you have verified on your system.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="addingsupportforproduct.htm">Adding fix support for currently installed licensed programs</a></strong><br />
IBM<sup>®</sup> licensed
programs that are installed on your system are not automatically supported
after an upgrade to a new release. </li>
