Use this information to understand the basic concepts of installing
and upgrading national languages on your server.

The primary language is the national language that is installed
on the system as the default language used
to display and print information. The primary language is also used to service
the system.

If you are planning to change your primary language only and not upgrade
at the same time, use the manual installation process. To determine which
installation process will work best for your situation, compare reasons in Software installation process.

If the primary language is uppercase English (2938 or 2950), you need to
type uppercase characters when you respond to system messages.

Secondary languages are one or more additional national languages
that can be installed on the system to display and print information.

For V5R4, you can order additional primary language
media (feature code 82xx) and receive
the standard set and keyed set for each of those languages. Secondary languages,
if ordered, come on separate optical media.

The iSeries™ Information Center topic i5/OS™ Globalization contains more information about planning for and using
national languages on your server.

Feature codes for your primary or secondary languages are listed in the
topic, Feature codes for national language version.
