Overview of IBM Telephone Directory V5.2

This topic provides an overview of the IBM® Telephone Directory V5.2 application and
how it interacts with different iSeries™ server components
and various software components.

IBM Telephone
Directory V5.2 provides the ability to search, view, and manage entries in
an LDAP directory. The directory can be used as a simple address book with
entries containing personal information about people in your organization
or, possibly, your organization's business contacts. It can also be used to
centrally define and control users and passwords for all of your organization's
Web applications and computer systems. iSeries Directory
Server Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is used to securely store
your information, and the IBM Telephone Directory V5.2 application is used to view
and manage your information. The application can use an existing directory
if you already have one, or you can set up a new directory. You can also take
advantage of Lotus® Sametime® and Enterprise Identity Mapping integration.

Two types of directory servers are supported by the IBM Telephone Directory
V5.2 application: iSeries Directory
Server (LDAP), and LDAP on Domino® 6.0 for iSeries (Domino Directory
services).

An overview of the application is as follows:

The IBM Telephone
Directory V5.2 application is installed on your iSeries server and
can be deployed into the runtime of the following editions of WebSphere® Application
Server:

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V5 (Base)

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V5.1 (Base)

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V6 (Base)

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V5 (ND)

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V5.1 (ND)

WebSphere Application
Server for iSeries V6 (ND)

WebSphere Application
Server - Express for iSeries V5

WebSphere Application
Server - Express for iSeries V5.1

WebSphere Application
Server - Express for iSeries V6

A Web administration GUI is integrated with the HTTP server administration
GUI and performs many underlying configuration tasks for you if you deploy
into the WebSphere Application Server (Base) or WebSphere Application
Server - Express run time.

For detailed information on how the IBM Telephone Directory V5.2 application uses
various iSeries server and software
components, see the following topics:
