Set the time zone (QTIMZON) system value

View this topic to learn the different ways to set the time zone
system value.

Three different methods can be used to set the system value. You can set
the system value before upgrading, during an initial program load (IPL), or
after the installation using iSeries™ Navigator. The method that you use depends
on whether you are upgrading to a new release, are performing an IPL, or already
have i5/OS™ installed.

Within the realm of time management, you can specify a time zone for your
system to use. There are three different ways to specify which
time zone your system uses. You can set your time zone properties before an i5/OS software
upgrade, during an attended IPL of the iSeries server, or after an IPL of the iSeries server
using iSeries Navigator.

The method that you use depends on whether you are upgrading from a previous i5/OS release
or installing the i5/OS. Otherwise, you can always work with the time
zone using iSeries Navigator.

Use this method if you have a previous release of i5/OS installed

if you have a previous release already installed, because your time zone will
be set correctly as soon as you upgrade.

Also, use this method to ensure that the time zone is set properly if the
offset from coordinated universal time (UTC) was not correct during the upgrade
or install of i5/OS software.
