<div><ol><li class="stepexpand"><span>At a command line, type <samp class="codeph">WRKHDWRSC *CMN</samp> to display
the Work with Communication Resources menu.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Type <kbd class="userinput">5</kbd> beside the communication resource
for the Ethernet port and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the Work with Communication Descriptions menu,
type <kbd class="userinput">1</kbd> and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>The Create Line Description (Ethernet) (CRTLINETH) menu appears.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>In the <strong>Line Description</strong> field, enter a description for the
line. In this example, the network administrator chose <samp class="codeph">Eth01</samp>. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Enter the information for the <strong>Line speed</strong> and <strong>Duplex</strong> fields.
Ensure these values match the port on the switch connecting to the iSeries™. In
this example, 100M and *HALF are used. Press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Press F10 to view additional parameters. You might
have to press Page Down to view them.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Change the Link speed field to match the Line Speed you entered
previously (In this example, 100M).</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Accept all other default values and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Press F3 to return to the Work with Communication Resources menu.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Press F3 again to return to the Command entry menu.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>At the command line, type <samp class="codeph">CFGTCP</samp> to display the
Configure TCP/IP menu.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the Configure TCP/IP menu, select Option 1 (Work with TCP/IP
interfaces).</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select option 1 (Add) to show the Add TCP/IP Interface display,
and press Enter. </span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Enter the following values to create a new TCP/IP interface and
press Enter: </span> <ul><li>Internet address: 192.168.1.3</li>
<li>Line description: <samp class="codeph">Eth01</samp></li>
<li>Subnet mask: 255.255.255.128</li>
</ul>
<div class="important"><span class="importanttitle">Important:</span> These addresses are used for example purposes
only. You need to enter the values that pertain to your own network.</div>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Press F3 to return to the Configure TCP/IP menu.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the Configure TCP/IP menu, select option 2 (Work with TCP/IP
routes).</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select option 1 (Add) to go to the Add TCP/IP Route (ADDTCPRTE)
display, and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Enter the following values to create a route and press Enter: </span> <ul><li>Route destination: <samp class="codeph">*DFTROUTE</samp> </li>
<li>Subnet mask: <samp class="codeph">*NONE</samp> </li>
<li>Next hop: 192.168.1.1</li>
</ul>
<div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> If you are not connected to another network, this route is unnecessary.
It is added here because this company knows it will connect to the Internet
in the future.</div>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select option 10 (Work with TCP/IP Host Table Entries) from the
Configure TCP/IP menu, and press Enter.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select option 1 (Add) to go to the Add TCP/IP Host Table Entry
display, and press Enter. </span></li>

and press Enter: </span> <ul><li>IP address: 192.168.1.3 </li>
<li>Host names: iseriesa.sampson.com</li>
<li>Name: iseriesa</li>
</ul>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Repeat <a href="#rzamuconfiguretcpip__step22">Step
22</a> for each system on your network. Because the server is not configured
as a Domain Name System (DNS), each system must have host table entries. For
example, to allow iSeries A to communicate with workstation 1 (192.168.1.4/wstn1),
add an additional host table entry: <span class="uicontrol">IP address</span>: 192.168.1.4,
<span class="uicontrol">Host name</span>: wstn1.sampson.com, and <span class="uicontrol">Name</span>:
wstn1. If this is not realistic for your network environment, see the <a href="../rzakk/rzakkconfiguring.htm">DNS configuration</a> topic
in the information center.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>On the command line, type <samp class="codeph">STRTCP</samp> to start TCP/IP.
This should also start your interfaces and lines.</span></li>
