<h1 class="topictitle1">Calculate disk space requirements</h1>
|

<div><p>Before you change the disk configuration or the disk protection on your
|
|
system, you need to calculate the space requirements for the change. This
|
|
helps you ensure that your system has sufficient disk storage for the changes.</p>
|
|
<p>You can use the <a href="rzalbcalcspace1.htm">Disk
|
|
space calculator</a> to determine if your disk pool contains sufficient
|
|
storage space to perform changes. To use the calculator, you need to know
|
|
how much free space and used space exists in the disk pool. </p>
|

<p>To view your disk pool configuration</p>
|
|
<ol><li>In iSeries™ Navigator,
|
|
expand <span class="menucascade"><span class="uicontrol">Disk Units</span> > <span class="uicontrol">Disk Pools</span></span>.</li>
|
|
<li>Right-click the source disk pool you want to view and select <span class="uicontrol">Properties</span>.</li>
|
|
<li>Select the <span class="uicontrol">Capacity</span> tab. <p>The <span class="uicontrol">Capacity</span> tab
|
|
displays the used space, free space, total capacity, threshold, and percentage
|
|
of disk space used for the disk pool. </p>
|
|

<li>Note the used space, free space, and the threshold from the <span class="uicontrol">Capacity</span> tab. </li>
|
|
<li>Enter the used-space value and free-space value in the calculator. </li>
|
|
<li>If you want to use the threshold value, enter the threshold value in the
|
|
calculator. <p>The calculator will warn you if your disk use exceeds your
|
|
threshold.</p>

<p>The calculator uses JavaScript™ to function. Ensure that

|
you are using a browser that supports JavaScript, and that JavaScript is
|
|
enabled. </p>
