<div><p>When setting up your local console you may encounter problems connecting.
Failure to connect is defined as problems resulting in the status not going
to <span class="uicontrol">Connected</span> and the emulator did not start.</p>

<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroubleconsolefails.htm">Console fails to connect</a></strong><br />
Under certain circumstances a directly attached console will fail to connect.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroublenetwork.htm">Network connection errors</a></strong><br />
These are solutions to problems that occur when a local console fails to connect to a server over a network.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroublesecureconnection.htm">Error message: The connection to the system is not a secure connection</a></strong><br />
You may receive this error message: <tt class="msgph">The connection to the
system is not a secure connection</tt>. </li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroublestatusremains.htm">Local or remote console status remains Connecting</a></strong><br />
These are solutions to problems that prevent the local console from connecting to the server or the remote console from connecting to a local console due to improper hardware or software configurations:</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroubleportfails.htm">Console fails to connect and port detection fails</a></strong><br />
If your console fails to connect and your port detection fails, here are some possible reasons.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroubleperformance.htm">Performance degradation on local console</a></strong><br />
The most likely reason for performance degradation is that the communication port is not running a buffered UART (Universal Asynchronous Receive/Transmit serial port chip).</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroubleinfrared.htm">Unable to make a connection when infrared devices are installed</a></strong><br />
If the PC having connection problems has infrared devices, you may need to disable infrared in some cases.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrtroubleunexpected.htm">Unexpected disconnections</a></strong><br />
If the PC, local or remote console, or both, have power management capabilities, it should have this function disabled.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzajrhyperterm.htm">Use HyperTerminal to validate connectivity between client and the server</a></strong><br />
HyperTerminal is a Windows<sup>®</sup> application used for connecting
to various sources and is supplied by all Windows<sup>®</sup> operating systems on the install
media, though may not be automatically installed. When the local console directly
attached to the server does not connect, you can use HyperTerminal to determine
if the PC has connectivity to the server. </li>
