<h1 class="topictitle1">Perform a switchover</h1>
<div><p>Performing a manual switchover causes the current primary node
to switch over to the backup node, as defined in the cluster resource group's
recovery domain.</p>
<div class="section"><p>When this happens, the current roles of the nodes in the recovery
domain of a cluster resource group change such that:</p>
<ul><li>The current primary node is assigned the role of last active backup.</li>
<li>The current first backup is assigned the role of primary.</li>
<li>Subsequent backups are moved up one in the order of backups.</li>
</ul>
<p><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" />A switchover is only allowed on primary-backup model
CRGs that have a status of ACTIVE. <img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /></p>
<div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> If you are performing a switchover
on a switchable device (also known as a device CRG), you should synchronize
user profile name, UID, and GID for performance reasons.</div>
<p><strong>Using iSeries™ Navigator</strong></p>
<p>This
requires Option 41 (HA Switchable Resources) to be installed and licensed.</p>
<p>To
switch a resource - a switchable hardware group, switchable application, or
switchable data group - from the primary node to the backup node in the recovery
domain, the resource must have a status of <span class="uicontrol">Started</span>.</p>
<p>To
perform a switchover on a resource, follow these steps:</p>

<ol><li><span>In iSeries Navigator,
expand <span class="uicontrol">Management Central</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Expand <span class="uicontrol">Clusters</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Expand the cluster containing the desired resource.</span></li>
<li><span>Click <span class="uicontrol">Switchable Hardware</span>, <span class="uicontrol">Switchable
Software</span>, or <span class="uicontrol">Switchable Data</span>.</span></li>
<li><span>Right-click the desired resource, and select <span class="uicontrol">Switch</span>.</span></li>
</ol>
