<dfn class="term">Failover</dfn> occurs when a server in a cluster
automatically switches over to one or more backup servers in the event of
a system failure.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptsswitchover.htm">Switchover</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
<dfn class="term">Switchover</dfn> happens when you manually
switch access to a resource from one server to another.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptsrejoin.htm">Rejoin</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
<dfn class="term">Rejoin</dfn> means to become an active member of a cluster
after having been a nonparticipating member.</li>

A <dfn class="term">merge</dfn> operation is similar to a rejoin operation
except that it occurs when nodes that are partitioned begin communicating
again.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptsreplication.htm">Replication</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
<dfn class="term">Replication</dfn><span class="uicontrol"></span> makes a copy of
something in real time. It means copying objects from one node in a cluster
to one or more other nodes in the cluster.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptsheartbeatmonitor.htm">Heartbeat monitoring</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
<dfn class="term">Heartbeat monitoring</dfn> is a cluster resource services
function that ensures that each node is active by sending a signal from every
node in the cluster to every other node in the cluster to convey that they
are still active.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptsreliablemessagefunction.htm">Reliable message function</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
The <dfn class="term">reliable message function</dfn> of cluster
resource services keeps track of each node in a cluster and ensures that all
nodes have consistent information about the state of cluster resources.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigmanagechangecrsssettings.htm">Change cluster resource services settings</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
The default values affecting message timeout and retry are set to account for most typical installations. However, it is possible to change these values to more closely match your communications environment.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" /><strong><a href="rzaigconceptpartition.htm">Cluster partition</a></strong><img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /><br />
A <dfn class="term">cluster partition</dfn> is a subset of the active cluster
nodes that results from a communications failure. Members of a partition maintain
connectivity with each other.</li>
