<h1 class="topictitle1">Configure a route</h1>
<div><div class="section"> <p>To reach remote networks, at least one routing entry is required.
If no routing entries are manually added, your server cannot reach systems
that are not on the same network to which the server is attached. You must
also add routing entries to allow TCP/IP clients that are attempting to reach
your server from a remote network to function correctly.</p>
<p>You should
plan to have the routing table defined so that there is always an entry for
at least one default route (<samp class="codeph">*DFTROUTE</samp>). If there is no match
on any other entry in the routing table, data is sent to the IP router specified
by the first available default route entry.</p>
<p>To configure a default route,
follow these steps:</p>
</div>
<ol><li><span>Select option 2 (Work with TCP/IP Routes) on the Configure TCP/IP
menu, and then press Enter.</span></li>
<li><span>Select option 1 (Add) to show the Add TCP/IP Route (<samp class="codeph">ADDTCPRTE</samp>)
display, and then press Enter.</span></li>
<li><span>Specify <kbd class="userinput">*DFTROUTE</kbd> for the route destination,
specify <kbd class="userinput">*NONE</kbd> for the subnet mask, specify the IP address
for the next hop, and then press Enter.</span></li>
