<h3 id="rzahqstartnstopwinconsole">Shutdown an integrated server from the Windows server console</h3>
<p>To shut down an integrated Windows server from its own console you select <span class="bold">Start &mdash;> Shut Down</span> from the Windows start menu. However,
this method is not recommended because it only causes an integrated server
to partially shut down. The Windows operating system stops, leaving the screen <span class="italic">It is now safe to turn off your computer</span>, but to completely
power down and restart you must <span class="italic">vary off</span> the server
using iSeries&trade; Navigator or the character-based interface.</p>
<p>As opposed to shutting down, <span class="bold">restarting</span> an integrated
server from its own console is one of the most efficient ways to do so.</p>
<p>Follow these steps</p>
<ol type="1">
<li>From the <span class="bold">Start</span> menu, choose <span class="bold">Shut
down</span>.</li>
<li>Select <span class="bold">Restart</span> from the drop-down menu and click <span class="bold">Ok</span>.</li></ol>

<div class="notebody">For iSCSI attached servers, when the server is
Shutdown from the Windows server console the NWSD will not be varied off.
The NWSD will transition from ACTIVE to VARIED ON. The server status can
be queried using iSeries Navigator or using the Work with Network Server
Status (WRKNWSSTS). The status is retrieved every time the command is issued.
The Windows server will not automatically report its state.</div><img src="deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" />
