upgrades</h1>
<div><p>Upgrades to current releases require that you be at a certain level
of software. This information shows the supported combinations for source
and current target releases.</p>
<p>To be able to upgrade to or replace
the V5R4 <span class="keyword">i5/OS</span> release,
your current version of the operating system must be either at V5R4, V5R3,
or V5R2. <span>If your target release is V5R3 or V5R2, use the OS/400 software
installation information for the version of <span class="keyword">OS/400</span> that
is your target release. </span></p>
<p>If you plan to use logical partitions and want to understand about supported

<div class="p"><a href="#supportedreleasesupgrades__supportedreleases">Table 1</a> shows
the currently supported combinations for source and target releases. Some
of the target releases shown in this table might not be available. If your
currently installed release is earlier than those listed here, you must first
upgrade your server to either V5R3 or V5R2 before you can upgrade to V5R4.
