<h1 class="topictitle1">Cleaning up user profiles</h1>
<div><p>Before you upgrade to a new release, you should clean up user profiles
and the objects that are owned by user profiles.</p>
<div class="section"> <div class="attention"><span class="attentiontitle">Attention:</span> Do not delete any IBM-supplied user profiles
(profiles that start with the letter Q). <p><strong>To clean up user profiles, have each user
sign on and do the following:</strong></p>
<ol><li>On the i5/OS™ command
line, type <samp class="codeph">WRKOBJOWN</samp>. The Work with Objects by Owner display
is shown. It lists all of the objects that are owned by the user. Use option
4 (Delete) to delete objects that are no longer needed.</li>
<li>Type <samp class="codeph">WRKSPLF</samp> to list all of the spooled files that are
owned by the user. Delete spooled files that are no longer needed.</li>

<p><strong>If users cannot do this, you can do clean up the user profiles
as follows:</strong></p>
</div>
<ol><li class="stepexpand"><span>Sign on as security officer (QSECOFR user profile).</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>From the Work with Licensed programs menu (type <samp class="codeph">GO LICPGM</samp>),
select option 5 (Prepare for install).</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Select the option to work with user profiles from the Prepare for
Install display. The Work with User Profiles display appears.</span></li>
<li class="stepexpand"><span>Use option 12 (Work with objects by owner) to display the objects
that are owned by a user profile.</span> <p>First, use the F21 key (F21=Select
Assistance level) to change your assistance level to <tt>Intermediate</tt> and
then do the following:</p>
<ul><li>For each user profile, delete objects that are no longer needed.</li>
<li>Use the WRKSPLF SELECT(*ALL) command to delete spooled files that are
no longer needed.</li>
</ul>

<li class="stepexpand"><span>Delete the user profiles that you no longer need.</span></li>
