data and objects that are stored on an <span class="keyword">Integrated xSeries<sup>®</sup> Server for iSeries™</span> running Windows
NT<sup>®</sup> 4.0 Server or later, or Linux<sup>®</sup>. The QNTC file system also provides
access to data and objects that are stored on remote servers running Windows
NT 4.0 or later, Linux Samba 3.0 or later, or supported versions of iSeries NetServer™.<img src="./deltaend.gif" alt="End of change" /></span></p>
<div class="section"><p>The QNTC file system allows iSeries applications to use data stored
on Windows<sup>®</sup> or Linux servers.</p>
<p>The QNTC file system is part of the base <span class="keyword">i5/OS™</span> operating
system. It is not necessary to have the Integrated Server Support, option
29 of the operating system, installed to access /QNTC.</p>

<div class="section"><h4 class="sectiontitle">Use QNTC through the integrated file
system interface</h4><p>By using the iSeries NetServer, iSeries Navigator, integrated file system
commands, user displays, or APIs, you can access the QNTC file system through
the integrated file system interface.</p>
<p>Be aware of the following considerations
and limitations.</p>

<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntauth.htm">Authorities and ownership in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
<span>The QNTC file system does not support
the ownership concept of a file or directory.</span></li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntcase.htm">Case-sensitivity in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
The QNTC file system preserves the same uppercase and lowercase form in which object names are entered, but does not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase in the names.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntpath.htm">Path names in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
<span><img src="./delta.gif" alt="Start of change" />The path consists of the file system name,
the server name, the share name, the directory and subdirectory names, and

<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntlinks.htm">Links in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
The QNTC file system supports only one link to an object. You cannot create or store symbolic links in QNTC.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntifscom.htm">Use integrated file system commands and displays in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
Many integrated file system commands and displays are valid in the QNTC file system</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxqntcvariables.htm">QNTC environment variables</a></strong><br />
The network browsing behavior of QNTC can be controlled by 2 environment
variables. Support for these environment variables began in i5/OS V5R4. Use
the ADDENVVAR CL command to create these environment variables.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntmkdir.htm">Create directories in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
<span>Use the <span class="cmdname">Create Directory
(MKDIR)</span> command or <span class="apiname">mkdir()</span> API to add a server
directory to the /QNTC directory.</span></li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntapi.htm">Use integrated file system APIs in the QNTC file system</a></strong><br />
Many integrated file system APIs are valid in the QNTC file system.</li>
<li class="ulchildlink"><strong><a href="rzaaxntkerb.htm">Enable QNTC file system for Network Authentication Service</a></strong><br />
<span>QNTC allows iSeries access to CIFS servers that support
the Kerberos V5 authentication protocol.</span></li>
