<p>Specifies whether the line is varied on asynchronously or synchronously. For synchronous vary on, this parameter specifies how long the system waits for the vary on to complete.

<dd>The system does not wait for vary on completion. The line is varied on asynchronously.
</dd>
<dt><b><i>vary-on-wait</i></b></dt>
<dd>Specify the time (in seconds) to wait. Valid values range from 15 through 180. The system waits until the line is varied on, or until the specified time passes, before completing the Vary Configuration (VRYCFG) command.

<li>When ONLINE(*YES) is used, specifying a wait time in the line description affects system IPL time. In such cases, system IPL time is influenced by the amount of time required to synchronously vary on the line or reach the wait-time value.

<li>The time required to vary on a line is the time it takes to:
<ul>
<li>Put tasks in place to manage the line
</li>
<li>Activate the communications I/O processor (IOP), including downloading the IOP model-unique Licensed Internal Code

<p>Normal vary-on time ranges from 5 through 45 seconds, but can be longer, depending on the system, line protocol, and other factors.

<p>Specifies the maximum frame (path information unit (PIU)) size that the controller can send or receive. This value is used to calculate request unit (RU) sizes. Since the maximum PIU size that the controller can send or receive is negotiated at exchange identifier time, the maximum PIU size used at run time may be different. This value matches the corresponding value on the host system. The recommended MAXFRAME values are: 502, 1014, 1590, 2038, 4086, and 8182 bytes.

<p>Specifies the hexadecimal exchange identifier that is used to identify the local system to the remote system. The 8-digit hexadecimal exchange identifier contains three digits for the block number and five digits for the identifier of this system.

<dd>Specify a source service access point for receiving and transmitting data. A maximum of 24 SSAP values can be specified.

</li>
<li>For SNA applications, the SSAP must be a hex value ranging from 04 through 9C in multiples of four (04, 08, 0C, and so on).
</li>
<li>For HPR applications, the SSAP must be hex C8.

<li>For non-SNA applications, the SSAP must be a hex value ranging from 02 through FE in multiples of two (02, 04, 06, and so on).

<h3>Recovery limits (CMNRCYLMT)</h3>
<p>Specifies the number of recovery attempts made by the system before an inquiry message is sent to the system operator. Also specifies the time (in minutes) that must elapse before the system sends an inquiry message to the system operator indicating that the recovery attempt count limit is reached.

<p>Specifies the authority you are giving to users who do not have specific authority for the object, who are not on an authorization list, and whose group profile or supplemental group profiles do not have specific authority for the object.

<dd>The user can perform all operations on the object except those limited to the owner or controlled by object existence (*OBJEXIST) and object management (*OBJMGT) authorities. The user can change and perform basic functions on the object. *CHANGE authority provides object operational (*OBJOPR) authority and all data authority. If the object is an authorization list, the user cannot add, change, or remove users.

<dd>The user can perform basic operations on the object, such as running a program or reading a file. The user cannot change the object. Use (*USE) authority provides object operational (*OBJOPR), read (*READ), and execute (*EXECUTE) authorities.

<dd>The user cannot access the object.

The system does not wait for the vary on to complete; therefore, the line is varied on asynchronously. The maximum frame size for this line is 1600 and the link speed is 2400 bits per second (bps).
