The Configure PM eServer iSeries display asks you a series of questions about how you want to set up your iSeries systems to send and receive PM eServer iSeries performance data. How you want to use your systems will dictate how you respond to the questions.

You can configure your iSeries system or systems in any of the following ways:

As a host system, which means that you want your system to receive performance data from other iSeries systems (remote systems) and then forward the data to IBM. The host system cannot be at a release level that is earlier than other systems. In other words, the host system must be at the same release level or later than other systems.

As a remote system, which means you send performance data to a host system. You identify from this display that you need a remote system, and then use option 5 (Work with remote iSeries systems) from the PM eServer iSeries menu to define your remote systems.

As a single iSeries system that sends its data directly to IBM.

These values are valid for the Send performance data to IBM field:

*YES

Specifies that this iSeries system sends the necessary PM eServer iSeries performance data to IBM. The system sends the data by using an electronic customer support modem or equivalent. If your iSeries system has a modem, you should use this option. *YES is the default value. Use this value if you are configuring a host system or a single iSeries system that sends data directly to IBM.

*NO

Specifies that this iSeries system does not send PM eServer iSeries performance data to IBM. Use this option if your iSeries system does not have an electronic customer support modem or equivalent. If you specify *NO, you must have another iSeries system in your network that does have a modem. The iSeries system with the modem (or host system) sends the data to IBM on behalf of the iSeries system without the modem. The iSeries system with the modem must be configured to collect the data from the iSeries system without the modem. Use this value if you are configuring a remote system.

These values are valid for the Receive performance data field:

*NO

Specifies that this iSeries system does not receive the PM eServer iSeries performance data. *NO is the default value. Specify this value if any of the following are true:

You have only one iSeries system.

You are configuring a remote system.

This iSeries system does not have an electronic customer support modem.

All your iSeries systems have their own electronic customer support modems.

Your iSeries systems that do not have an electronic customer support modem will not use this iSeries system to send their data to IBM.

*YES

Specifies that this iSeries system receives the PM eServer iSeries performance data from other iSeries systems for transmission to IBM. Specify this value:

If this iSeries system has an electronic customer support modem and there are other iSeries systems in your network that do not have electronic customer support modems.

If you are configuring a host system.

For the Performance data library field, specify the name of the library where the PM eServer iSeries data is stored. The default value is QMPGDATA. The library must exist on your system auxiliary storage pool (ASP) or on a basic ASP. It cannot exist on an independent ASP.

If you specify *YES for Send performance data to IBM , you see additional information that indicates whether the appropriate communications objects exist. PM eServer iSeries creates the communications objects for you for transmission. A value of Found indicates that PM eServer iSeries uses existing objects. If the objects are not found, PM eServer iSeries creates new communications objects. If you press F6 (Create/Recreate), PM eServer iSeries deletes the existing objects and creates new objects.

After you verify your objects, press Enter to continue.
