This topic describes the Remote Supervisor Adapter requirements.
Only certain xSeries® models require the installation of a Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA I or RSA II). This adapter is required to provide a management interface to the xSeries so that it can be controlled from i5/OS™. For example, the RSA card is used to power up and power down the xSeries server. The RSA I or RSA II is only required for those xSeries servers that do not have the Remote Supervisor capability built in. You can determine whether your xSeries requires a Remote Supervisor Adapter by checking the following Web site:
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/integratedxseries/xseriesmodels/
Those xSeries servers requiring an RSA I or RSA II are noted.
If you are installing either of these cards make sure the xSeries is not turned on and is not cabled into the iSeries™ HSL and SPCN connections.
To install an RSA card refer to the iSeries PCI Card and Integrated xSeries Adapter (IXA) Card or Integrated xSeries Adapter (IXA) installation, see Reviewing the planning documentation.
