Assign the token-ring line description to a TCP/IP interface

You can assign the token-ring line description to a new or an existing TCP/IP interface through iSeries™ Navigator.

After changing the existing line description that will be used with the 100 Mbps adapter, you assign the line description to a TCP/IP interface. You do not need to do this if you are using the line description with Systems Network Architecture (SNA).

Assign the line description to a TCP/IP interface:

To assign the line description to a new interface, you must follow the procedure in Configure TCP/IP over token ring to create the interface. During this creation process, you must choose your description from a list of line descriptions.

Note: If other entities know the burned-in address of your old adapter, you must replace that address with the address of the 100 Mbps adapter. This is required if you want them to communicate with the adapter. You can use a locally administered address to avoid these kinds of changes in the future (see LAN IOA address for more information).

To associate your line description with an existing interface, do these steps:

  1. If you have not done so already, install iSeries Navigator.
  2. If this is the first time you are using iSeries Navigator to access your server, use the wizard to configure TCP/IP on the system.
  3. In the navigation bar, expand the server that contains the changed line description.
  4. Select Network > Protocol.
  5. Right-click TCP/IP and select Interface.
  6. Double-click the interface that you will assign the line description to.
  7. Click the Resource tab and select your line description from the Line name option.
  8. Click OK, and then click OK again.
