Example details: iSeries to host server connection over a nonswitched SDLC line

Figure 1 shows the iSeries™ system values that need to match the Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM®) values when you use a nonswitched synchronous data link control (SDLC) line. The following table describes the relationships shown in Figure 1 between the iSeries system values and the VTAM values. The values shown and described here are example values.

Table 3. iSeries system value relationship to VTAM values
iSeries system parameter name and value iSeries parameter value description VTAM Licensed Program value
Network Attribute: LCLLCONAME = R4082A14 The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for the Independent logical unit (LU) name. LINE = R4082A14
Network Attribute: LCLNETID =RPC The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM Physical Unit (PU) NETID value. NETID = RPC
Line Description attribute: LINESPEED = 9600 The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM line definition parameter, SPEED. SPEED = 9600
Line Description attribute: MAXFRAME = 521 The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for the Line definition attribute MAXDATA. MAXDATA = 521
Host Controller Description attribute: STNADDR The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for the Station address, ADDR.. ADDR = C1
Display Device Description attribute: LOCADR The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for the Dependent LU address. LOCADDR = 09
Note: The following iSeries system parameters are related.
  • The Display Device Description LCLLOCNAME parameter and the Printer Device Description LCLLOCNAME parameter values use the value set for the LCLLOCNAME Network Attribute parameter, *NETATR.
  • The Printer Device Description CTL parameter and the Display Device Description CTL parameter specify the name of the controller description (specified in the Host Controller Description) to which they attach.
  • The Host Controller Description value for MAXFRAME, *LINKTYPE, determines the maximum frame size to be used based on the type of line to which the controller is attached.
