Point-to-Point over Ethernet (PPPoE) connections use a virtual line to send PPP data (through an Ethernet adapter) to a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem provided by your Internet service provider (ISP). The modem is also connected to the Ethernet-based LAN.
This allows high speed Internet access for LAN users via PPP sessions through the iSeries™ server. Once the connection between the iSeries and the ISP has started, individual users on the LAN can start unique sessions with the ISP over PPPoE.
PPPoE connections are only used by originator connection profiles, and imply an Initiator operating mode and use only a single line.
