If you are running Domino® and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) on the same iSeries™ server, it is recommended that you configure each one to bind to a specific IP address. This topic provides the steps for configuring the SMTP server to use a specific Internet address.
When hosting Domino and SMTP server on the same iSeries server, you should bind each server to an IP address. Mail is then sent to users of Domino or SMTP using the appropriate IP address and although it shares a port, the mail is only handled by the server for which it is intended.
To force the SMTP server to use a specific Internet address for iSeries servers running OS/400® V5R1 or later or running i5/OS™ V5R3 or later, follow these steps:
To force the SMTP server to use a specific Internet address, for iSeries servers running OS/400 V5R1 or earlier, follow these steps:
To force the SMTP client to use a specific Internet address, before OS/400 V5R1, follow the same steps, except in step 1 create the data area: DTAARA(QUSRSYS/QTMSCBNDIP)
Now SMTP receives only mail that is addressed to this Internet address. Check the Domain Name System (DNS) server, local host table, and system distribution directory to ensure that this forced Internet address is present.
Refer to the Domino reference library for instructions on how to bind Domino SMTP to a specific TCP/IP address.
