Types of message queues

You can use several system queues to receive messages.

The system queues that you can use are as follows:

The system operator message queue, QSYSOPR contains system messages that require a reply from the operator.
Optional message queue QSYSMSG holds several error messages.
The history log, QHST holds messages that track the system's activities.
The printer queue stores messages that are associated with each printer.
Each user and workstation also has message queues that hold messages from the system operator, another user, or system.

QSYSOPR message queue

The system operator message queue, QSYSOPR, contains system messages that require a reply from the operator.

To handle the large number of messages that are sent to QSYSOPR, or the configured message queue, a message queue parameter (MSGQ) exists for the following line and controller descriptions:

Line descriptions: Distributed Data Interface, Ethernet, Frame-Relay, token-ring, X.25
Controller descriptions: APPC, Async, Local Workstation, Remote Workstation, SNA Host, Virtual Workstation
