Enable virtual Ethernet

Virtual Ethernet provides the capability to provide multiple communication paths between applications that are run in each of the partitions.

The enablement and setup of virtual Ethernet requires a restart of the Linux partition, but does not require any special hardware or software. Once a specific virtual Ethernet is enabled for a logical partition, a network device vethXX is created in the logical partition. The user can then set up TCP/IP configuration appropriately to start communicating with another partition.
To enable virtual Ethernet, follow these steps:
  1. In iSeries™ Navigator, expand My Connections or your active environment.
  2. Select the primary partition of the server.
  3. Expand Configuration and Service and select Logical Partitions.
  4. Right-click Properties and select the Virtual Ethernet page. View the virtual Ethernet options for the logical partition. Click Help if you need more information on this field.
  5. Click OK.
