Run the ixssetup.sh script

This topic discusses the isxxsetup.sh script, necessary to complete the Linux® installation.

Attention: This step is not an optional step. This step ensures that the server will:

• Shut down cleanly

• Prepare for Linux distribution updates

• Lock/unlock virtual tape and optical devices

• Exchange administrative information with the hosting i5/OS partition

To run the ixssetup.sh script, complete the following steps:

  1. Verify that the integrated hardware is connected to the hosting i5/OS™ partition using an external LAN connection.
  2. Log into the Linux server as root.
  3. Start a shell prompt:
    • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux, right-click the desktop and select New Terminal.
    • For SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server, click the monitor and shell toolbar icon.
  4. Enter the following command:
    mkdir /mnt/sdb1
  5. Enter the following command:
    mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1
  6. Enter the following command:
    /mnt/sdb1/install/ixssetup.sh
  7. You are prompted to enter the IP address or DNS Name (host name) of the hosting i5/OS partition. Linux integration support needs this data in order to set up a connection to exchange administrative information with i5/OS. It is important that you specify a valid IP address, or host name that is registered in the local DNS.
  8. The server reboots.
