Set the time zone after an IPL

This topic describes how to change the time zone system value using iSeries™ Navigator. Also, use this method to ensure that the time zone is set properly if the offset from coordinated universal time (UTC) was not correct during the upgrade or install of i5/OS™ software.

Use iSeries Navigator to specify a time zone for your system to use. This topic describes how to change or edit the time zone (QTIMZON) system value using iSeries Navigator. However, you can also specify the time zone (QTIMZON) system value in a 5250 emulator session by using the Work with System Values (WRKSYSVAL) or the Change System Value (CHGSYSVAL) command.

Complete the following steps to change the time zone (QTIMZON) system value using iSeries Navigator:

  1. In iSeries Navigator, expand My Connections > server-name > Configuration and Service > Time Management > Time Zones.
  2. View the time zones listed in the Available time zones field, and select the time zone you want to use on the system. You can also create your own time zone.
  3. Click Change system value.
  4. Click OK to continue with the change request.
