If you are concerned about unauthorized attempts to enter your
system, you can use the PRTUSRPRF command to help you monitor
sign-on and password activity.
Here are several suggestions for using this report:
- Determine whether the password expiration interval for some user profiles
is longer than the system value and whether the longer expiration interval
is justified. For example, in the report, USERY has a password expiration
interval of 120 days.
- Run this report regularly to monitor unsuccessful signon attempts. Someone
who is trying to break into your system may be aware that your system takes
action after a certain number of unsuccessful attempts. Each night, the would-be
intruder might try fewer times than your QMAXSIGN value to avoid alerting
you to the attempts. However, if you run this report early each morning and
notice that certain profiles often have unsuccessful signon attempts, you
might suspect that you have a problem.
- Identify user profiles that have not been used for a long time or whose
passwords have not been changed for a long time.
