Display level of fixes

Find out the latest level of your cumulative PTF package or of the Licensed Internal Code fixes.

You may have a need to know what the latest levels are of cumulative PTF packages, Licensed Internal Code PTFs, or HIPER PTFs. The cumulative PTF package level of your system refers to the latest cumulative PTF package installed on your servers.

Display the cumulative PTF package level

To display the cumulative PTF package level of your server, do the following steps from iSeries™ Navigator:
  1. Expand Management Central.
  2. Expand Endpoint Systems.
  3. Right-click the endpoint system, select Properties, and then click the Details tab.

Determine your current cumulative PTF package level

To determine your current cumulative PTF package level, do one of the following:

Display cumulative PTF group
Use the Work with PTF Groups (WRKPTFGRP) command or view the fix group inventory for the system with iSeries Navigator. Find the PTF group that is named Start of changeSF99540End of change. The status of the PTF group indicates if all the PTFs in the cumulative PTF package are installed on your system. The level of the PTF group identifies the level of the cumulative PTF package. For example, if the level is 4178, your cumulative PTF package ID is Start of changeC4178540 (540 is added to the end of the package ID to indicate version 5 release 4 modification level 0End of change). The level of the cumulative package ID indicates the release date of the package using the Julian calendar. Specify WRKPTFGRP Start of changeSF99540,End of change and type option 8 (Display special handling PTFs). The date shown may be later than the release date of the package in the Level field if the special handling PTF section has changed. This date may be referred to from the PSP information when installing your cumulative PTF package.
Display cumulative marker PTFs
To display cumulative marker PTFs, do one of the following:
  • For the cumulative PTF package level, type the following from the character-based interface:
    DSPPTF LICPGM(5722SS1)
  • For the Licensed Internal Code PTFs level, type the following:
    DSPPTF 5722999

The PTF ID column on the Display PTF Status display lists the identifiers for all of the cumulative PTF packages installed on your system. Cumulative PTF package identifiers start with the letter T.

Start of changeIf you are using version 5 release 4 modification 0 and you have PTF TC04178 installed on your system, your cumulative fix package level is C4178540 (540 is added to the end of the package ID to indicate version 5 release 4 modification Level 0). The last four digits of the cumulative package ID indicate the release date of the package, using the Julian calendar. The latest level of the cumulative PTF package is the one where the last four digits are the highest.End of change

Note: Fix IDs that start with the letters TC indicate that the entire cumulative PTF package has been applied. Fix IDs that start with the letters TA indicate that the HIPER fixes and HIPER Licensed Internal Code fixes have been applied. Fix IDs that start with the letters TL indicate that the HIPER Licensed Internal Code fixes have been applied.

Start of changeUsually the numbers for the corresponding TC, TA, and TL fix IDs are all the same for each release. For V5R3, however, the TL numbers for Licensed Internal Code might differ from the TC and TA numbers. For example, V5R3M0 has the marker TC04178. The Licensed Internal Code HIPER marker, however, is TL04178 for V5R3M0 and TL54178 for V5R3M5.End of change

Print or display the summary of fixes in a cumulative PTF package on CD-ROM

To print or display the summary of fixes contained in a cumulative PTF package on CD-ROM, do the following:
  1. Load the cumulative PTF package CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. On any command line, type:
    LODPTF LICPGM(5722999) DEV(OPTYY) SELECT(*ALL)
        PATHID(*FIRST) COVER(*ONLY)

where YY is the unit ID for the CD-ROM drive in which you loaded the PTF CD-ROM. For information about printing the cumulative fix package summary, see Display and print fix cover letters. A copy of the PTF summary is put into file QAPZCOVER in Library QGPL.

Display server firmware PTFs

When you use the Display PTF (DSPPTF) command, you see information associated with the service partition:

  • When the partition is the service partition, the IPL source field on the display shows the side on which the last server IPL was performed for the server firmware code (##SERV#T or ##SERV#P).
  • Start of changeWhen PTFs are applied for the server firmware portion of the Licensed Internal Code but are not active, you see statuses that indicate a server IPL is required to complete the operation. To view the status descriptions for your fixes, see Fix status descriptions using the command interface.End of change
  • When the server firmware that is currently active is at a later level than the server firmware portion of the Licensed Internal Code that is installed on the system, message CPD35F9 is shown.
  • Start of changeWhen the installed level of the server firmware portion of the Licensed Internal Code has changed, message CPD35F8 indicates that a server IPL is required.End of change
  • When the server firmware that is currently active is at a different level than the server firmware portion of the Licensed Internal Code that is installed on the system but changes are not allowed from the service partition, message CPD35FA is shown.
  • Option 5 (Display PTF details) contains a field that indicates whether or not the PTF requires a server IPL (Server IPL required). The value shown indicates from which side the IPL needs to be performed to activate the changes. If no server IPL is pending, the value is None.

When you specify DSPPTF SELECT(*ACTRQD), you see all the PTFs that have required actions pending, including the PTFs that require you to perform a server IPL.
