With directly attached I/O, Linux manages the hardware resources directly and all I/O resources are under the control of the Linux operating system.
A directly attached I/O allows you to allocate disk units, tape devices, optical devices, and LAN adapters to a logical partition running Linux. You must have an NWSD to install Linux in a logical partition. Once Linux is installed, you can configure the partition to start independently. For directly attached hardware, all failure and diagnostic messages will be displayed within the logical partition.
