Example details: iSeries to host server connection over a token-ring line

Figure 2 shows the iSeries™ system values that need to match the VTAM® values when you use a token-ring line. The following table describes the relationships shown in Figure 2 between the iSeries system values and the VTAM values. The values shown and described here are example values.

Note:
The actual graphic shown in Figure 2 depicts two controllers for the iSeries system. However, only one controller is described in the following table for ease of understanding.
Table 4. iSeries system value relationships to VTAM values
iSeries system parameter name and value iSeries parameter value description VTAM Licensed Program value
Network attribute: LCLLOCNAME = RCHAS722 The value for this attribute should match the VTAM Switched major Node Definition value for the Independent LU name attribute. LU = RCHAS722
Network attribute: LCLNETID = RPC The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for iSeries local network ID. NETID = RPC
Line Description attribute: ADPTADR = 4000705F4512 The value for this iSeries parameter matches the last 12 characters in the VTAM DAILNO attribute value of the PATH parameter. DIALNO = 0104400070544512
Line Description attribute: MAXFRAME = 1994 The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM physical unit (PU) value for iSeries MAXDATA. MAXDATA = 1994
Host Controller Description attribute: LCLCHID = 0560722A The value for this iSeries parameter is the combination of the VTAM values for iSeries Block Number and iSeries ID number.

IDBLK = 056

IDNUM = 0722A

Host Controller Description attribute: SSAP = 04 The value for this iSeries parameter matches the third and fourth characters of the VTAM DAILNO attribute value on the PATH parameter. DIAL = 0104400070544512
Display Device Description attribute: LOCADR = 04 The value for this iSeries parameter should match the VTAM value for the LOCADDRD attribute on the SW722A04 Dependent LU address. LOCADDR = 04
Note: The following iSeries system parameters are related.
  • The Display Device Description LCLLOCNAME parameter uses the value set for the LCLLOCNAME Network Attribute parameter, *NETATR.
  • The Display Device Description CTL parameter specifies the name of the controller description (CTLD – specified in the Host Controller Description) to which it is attached.
  • The Host Controller Description value for MAXFRAME, *LINKTYPE, determines the maximum frame size to be used based on the type of line to which the controller is attached. The type of line is specified in the line descriptions (LIND) parameter.
