The disk drive SCSI and virtual Ethernet data flows between i5/OS™ and the integrated server over the iSeries™ system bus (for an IXS) or a high speed
link (HSL) connection between an I/O tower and the iSeries system (for
an IXA). See Figure 13 and Figure 14. In
essence, the disk drive SCSI and virtual Ethernet protocols are encapsulated
or tunnelled within the normal iSeries system bus/HSL data transfer protocols.
