By default, iSeries™ is set to not store passwords for remote systems. Therefore, enrollment for group profiles and user profiles is delayed until the iSeries can access the profile's password. Without stored passwords, the system cannot automatically start authenticated connections to NetWare servers. You must start a connection manually each time you sign on and want to connect to a specific server.
If you want the iSeries to automatically start authenticated connections to NetWare, you must enable the system to save password information with authentication entries. You do this by changing the QRETSVRSEC system value from its default of 0 to the value 1. Doing this speeds up user access. If you have an authentication entry, you only need to specify the NetWare server to start a connection. There are security implications to storing passwords, however. A trusted user who has ALLOBJ authority and access to service tools such as SST and DST could find the passwords on your server and decrypt them. If you choose not to let iSeries store passwords, you can still enroll iSeries users on NetWare.
