Debugging IP over SNA Configurations

Two commands can be helpful in debugging IP over SNA configurations:

The Start Mode (STRMOD) CL command can help you determine if your SNA configuration is correct. As input to the STRMOD command, you need the remote location name. You can determine the remote location name from the destination IP address by using the Convert IP over SNA Interface (CVTIPSIFC) command. The message you receive when STRMOD completes tells you whether it was successful.
The TCP/IP FTP command can help you determine if your AnyNet configuration is correct. If you get the User prompt, the AnyNet configuration is correct.
Note: When FTP fails, it does not give a detailed reason for the failure. To get a detailed reason, you should run a sockets program that reports the value for errno when the failure occurs.

Sockets Error (value of errno)	Possible Causes
EHOSTUNREACH	Missing ADDIPSLOC command on client system. Missing ADDIPSIFC command on client system. Type of service points to a non-existent mode description on client system. ADDIPSLOC command on client system resulted in a location name that is not found. ADDIPSLOC command on client system resulted in a location name that is on a non-APPC device description.
EADDRNOTAVAIL	AnyNet not active on client system (ALWANYNET attribute set to *NO), but TCP is started. Mode could not be added to device on client system.
EUNATCH	AnyNet not active on client system (ALWANYNET attribute set to *NO), and TCP is not started.
ECONNREFUSED	AnyNet not active on client system (ALWANYNET attribute set to NO). listen()* not active on server system.
ECONNABORTED	Line error Device/controller/line varied off on client or server system while in use. User not authorized to APPC device description object on server system.
ETIMEDOUT	ADDIPSLOC command on client system points to a location name that does not exist or is on a system that is not responding in the APPN network. Messages (especially inquiry messages) on message queue QSYSOPR are waiting for a reply.
EACCES	User not authorized to port on client system. User not authorized to APPC device description object on client system.
