Update function allows users to specify PC directories for updating from a

||
|
|
configured network server or from multiple networked servers. This permits
|
||
|
|
users to load non-<span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> software
|
||
|
|
products on a server in the network, and to keep those files updated on PCs.
|
||
|
|
Directory Update is an optionally installable <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> component.</p>
|
||
|

<div class="section"><h4 class="sectiontitle">How to install <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Directory
|
||
|
|
Update:</h4><p>To install Directory Update, follow these steps when you
|
||
|
|
install <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span>, or when
|
||
|
|
you run Selective Setup if <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> is
|
||
|
|
already installed:</p>
|
||
|
|
<ol><li>Select the <span class="uicontrol"><span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Optional
|
||
|
|
Components</span> check box.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Expand the view and make sure that the <span class="uicontrol">Directory Update</span> subcomponent
|
||
|
|
also is selected.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Follow the prompts to completion.</li>
|
||
|
|

Update C/C++ APIs:</h4><span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Directory
|
||
|
|
Update C/C++ application programming interfaces (APIs) allow software developers
|
||
|
|
to add, change and delete update entries that are used by the <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Directory
|
||
|
|
Update function. <div class="note"><span class="notetitle">Note:</span> <span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Directory
|
||
|
|
Update APIs do not actually perform the updates. They are for configuration
|
||
|
|
purposes only. The task of updating files is handled exclusively by the Directory
|
||
|
|
Update application.</div>
|
||
|
|
<p><span class="keyword">iSeries Access for Windows</span> Directory
|
||
|
|
Update APIs enable the:</p>
|
||
|
|
<ul><li>Creation of update entries.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Deletion of update entries.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Modification of update entries.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Retrieval of information from update entries.</li>
|
||
|
|
<li>Retrieval of information such as return codes. For example, only one application
|
||
|
|
can access the Update entries at a time. If you get a return code that indicates <strong>locked</strong>,
|
||
|
|
use the information to find the name of the application that has the entries
|
||
|
|
open.</li>
|
||
|
|

does not include support for network drives or for universal naming conventions.

This now is provided by the <strong>iSeries NetServer</strong> function. Network
|
||
|
|
drives that you previously mapped by using iSeries Access should be mapped by using iSeries NetServer
|
||
|
|
support. Set up the iSeries NetServer that comes with OS/400<sup>®</sup> V4R2
|
||
|
|
