<h3 id="rzahqpcdpi">Optical device problems</h3>
<p>If the i5/OS optical device does not work with an integrated Windows server,
take these actions:</p>
<ol type="1">
<li>Make sure that you have varied on the optical device on i5/OS. Find out
how to vary on the optical device in <a href="rzahqocdpo.htm#rzahqocdpo">Use iSeries optical drives with integrated Windows servers</a>.</li>
<li>Make sure the optical drive is allocated to the integrated server.</li>
<li>Make sure that there is optical media in the drive.</li>
<li>If your system has logical partitions, make sure that you have allocated
the optical device to the same partition as the integrated server.</li>
<li>Look in the event log for optical device errors.</li>
<li>Make sure that the optical device shows up in <span class="bold">My Computer</span> on the integrated Windows server.</li>
<li>Recovery steps for optical devices:
<ol type="a">
<li>Close the IBM iSeries Integrated Server Support snap-in program</li>
<li>Vary off the optical device on the iSeries</li>
<li>Vary the optical device on</li>
<li>Reallocate the device to the integrated server</li></ol></li>
<li>If the problem still persists, check the technical information databases
at the

<li>If you cannot find the solution there, contact your technical support
provider.</li></ol>
<p>If an integrated server fails before unlocking an optical device, the device
will be unavailable to i5/OS or to other integrated servers. For more information,
